    Common Uses

Date conversions are popular for wedding date tattoos, anniversary gifts, monument inscriptions, and milestone keepsakes. The most common format is DD · MM · YYYY, but you can also use MM · DD · YYYY in regions that prefer it. Roman numerals add a sense of permanence and ceremony that ordinary digits simply do not carry, which is why they remain a favourite choice for engraving on rings, pendants, plaques and family heirlooms.

    Reading Roman Dates

A Roman numeral date is just three numbers — day, month, and year — written in their Roman form and joined by a separator such as a dot, a slash, or a centred period. For example, 14 February 2024 becomes XIV · II · MMXXIV. Because each component is a separate number, you read them independently and then combine them in your preferred order.

When choosing a layout for a tattoo, jewellery engraving, or invitation, consider readability at small sizes. Centred dots tend to look cleaner than slashes, and most engravers recommend leaving generous spacing between the day, month, and year so that long years like MMXXIV remain easy to scan at a glance.
